Le Freaks, c'est chic

Yesterday I experienced one of the more wonderful traditions of NYC - the annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade! It is exactly what it sounds like.  On this day the boardwalk that runs alongside Coney Island beach is home to mermaids, Neptune, lobsters, marching bands, sailors and various others.  Why? You know, I never thought to ask.  I feel that 'why not' is a better question.

I went with my friends Chris and Michel (who for the purposes of the day is not Michel, is Aliss'll see) No further explanations needed...pure fun, beautiful sun, expression, exuberance and unbridled joy all day. Somewhere along the way we ended up IN the parade instead of being mere spectators.

By a sweet passing thought...if someone had told me five years ago that I would be sitting in a charming apartment in a beautiful neighbourhood in Brooklyn, having dinner with one of my closest friends who is from Mexico, having wonderful mind just boggles, sometimes.  If you'd told me I would have said 'really? Well that sounds great but a bit of a long shot'.

More visuals

Sam and Val's fire escape and the sunbathing it affords

That's a genuine taxidermied, it was a horse, now it's a stuffed's some kind of famous horse...and it is in an apartment on 19th St.  For real.  In someone's apartment.

Our local laundry recently became one of 10 spots in the city chosen for a public artworks project - community organisations sponsored by a detergent company were responsible for bringing art to public spaces.  Errrr, I have almost never been so happy as when I walked in there and the ENTIRE PLACE looks like the inside of Ken Kesey's brain.  Everything, walls, ceiling, benches, lamps, washing machines,'s amazing.

Saying see you around to Times Square.

Ari runs now

'Greek' with Will Connell, Lauren Downie, meee and Sam Underwood

New happy place I'm adopting by the Gowanus's almost, ALMOST like real nature.

I said almost

That upright boat had a totally unexpected collection of wacky art and funny haikus.

Maite is a cake whisperer...I'm serious, she talks to them.
